FCT Minister Beckons Indian Investors In Agriculture

Rice farmersMinister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Malam Muhammad Musa Bello has invited investors from India to come over to Abuja and put their resources and know-how into agriculture.
Received a 22-member Indian business delegation which was part of the entourage of the visiting Vice President of India, Shri Mohammed Hamid Ansari to Nigeria to discuss bilateral relations, the minister said that there are a lot of agricultural potentials in the Federal Capital Territory awaiting any would-be investor to tap.
Muhammad Bello stressed that Nigeria has comparative advantage in agriculture and that the climate in Abuja is very friendly for the growing of different cash crops.
According to him, cashew is doing very well in the federal city and that the nuts are exported raw. He added that with a little value added before export, the income from the produce can be high.
The minister therefore asked the investors to take advantage of this by establishing industries in Abuja and develop them into finished products for export.
He assured that in line with the Change Agenda of the Federal Government, the FCT Administration is prepared to support them with enabling environment.
He emphasised that there are also a lot of potentials in waste management and that waste can be turned into wealth.
He gave a hint that the FCT Administration has already developed a blueprint for easy take off of such industry and called on the delegation to take advantage of the opportunities.
The leader of the business delegation, Mr. Pradeep Kumar Gupta promised to further talk to the FCT Administration’s technical officials to take the discussion to the next level. [myad]
