Buhari Looks Beyond His Tenure, Calls On Nigerians To Pray For God Fearing Leaders In Future

President Muhammadu Buhari has asked Nigerians to pray that the leaders who would take over from where he stopped at the end of his tenure will be those who have the fear of God in their hearts.
The President, who spoke in Abakaliki, the Ebonyi state capital on Tuesday night, at a State dinner organised in his honour, acknowledged that he had been able to rally the best brains in the country to run the government from May 2015.
He said: “we should continue to pray to God that the elites that will be in-charge of the country in the future fear God.”
Buhari said that in his desire to provide selfless leadership to the country, he had closed his eyes to appointing mediocre simply because of the interpersonal relationship, adding that he appointed most of those who are working with him based purely on merit and proven track records.
He stressed that he always considered what was best for the country in his decisions.
“Some of the people holding high positions in the government, like my ministers, will tell you that I didn’t know them from Adam.
“I just came across their names from the records and I worked with the records. I thank God that I have a very good team.”
The President commended Governor David Umahi for his development strides in the State, saying: “the absolute commitment of the Governor to his position is very remarkable and I am very impressed.”
President Buhari expressed gratitude to God and the people of Ebonyi for recognising his modest contribution to the country, even as he described Nigeria as a great country with incredible resources and highly talented people. [myad]
