Don’t Joke With Nigeria’s Security Challenges, Army Spokesman Warns

The Director, Defence Information, Brigadier-General John Agim, has warned media against joking with the security challenges facing Nigeria with the kind of news they put before members of the reading public.
Reacting to the trending news that soldiers killed by Boko Haram at Malete in Borno State did not have modern weapons and that they were betrayed by their commanders, General Agim said: “we should avoid joking with our security problems. If we do not change the narrative and encourage our troops to face our security challenges with boldness, then we should be ready for the worst.
“The Matele incident also killed the commander, so what corruption are we talking about? The commanders’ lives are in danger like any other soldier deployed in the Operation Theatre.”
