The Chairman of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), Professor Chidi Odinkalu has accused the Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose of inciting violence against the will of Nigerians through an advert he placed on the cover page of the Punch Newspaper some weeks ago.
The legal luminary also said it was in the record of his Commission that Governor Fayose is one of the most violent political personalities in Nigeria today.
Professor Chidi made this known during a live programme on Africa Indepedent Television (IAIT) tagged Focus Nigeria and was anchored by Gbenga Aruleba.
Professor Chidi said that it was an insult against the collective integrity of all Nigerians for an ordinary politician like Fayose to say that General Murtala Muhammed, former Nigeria Head of State died in office when it was actually known to all Nigerians that the erudite Military leader was assassinated by the hooks like Fayose.
“This was a man we all loved. Murtala’s leadership is lacking in Nigeria today. Where were poeple like the Fayoses when Murtala was in control of Nigeria.
“This was a man that was never corrupt. This was a man who fought for the soul of making Nigeria one. This was a leader that abhorred Nepotism, Corruption, Ethnic Jingoism and all the ills that encircle our political climate today. This man called Fayose, because of his immunity, went ahead and sponsored “hatred” and attempted to sow a seed of discord across our boarders.
This is really undeserving of a governor anywhere in Nigeria. It is painful I must say this because that is not the best way to fulfil the good legacies of Murtala. He died for all Nigerians and his soul remains in our minds forever. Don’t forget, this was a man who died living wife and children behind and even one of his sons is a Deputy Governorship candidate for Fayose’s party in Kano state.
“This madness of this politician is just unacceptable to us and to internationally recognised commission, and I can assure all Nigerians that the perpetrators of all the violence and insults against our
collective being will never go unpunished. Hence, the Commission is presently compiling names of all actors in political violence across the country.
We are promising Nigerians that they shall be subjected to investigation and where necessary, the Commission will forward their cases and violence record to International Criminal Court (ICC) for prosecution.
“I can tell you some Nigerian Politicians will end up in jail like the likes of former Presidents Taylor of Liberia and Gbagbo.” [myad]
