Chairman of the National Conference, Justice Idris Kutigi has threatened to walk out unruly members. His deputy, Professor Bolaji Akinyemi supported him as some members went wild over the report of the committee on Land Tenure Matters and National Boundaries.

The plenary session began discussions on the committee’s report which suddenly turned rowdy when the chairman of the committee, General A.B. Mamman presented the report for consideration.

There was a sharp division between Northern and Southern delegates over the recommendation that the Land Use Act be expunged from the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as it has failed to address the problems of land due to its poor implementation.

Kutigi asked the delegates to adhere strictly to the rule of business at the confab, even as the plenary was adjourned to Monday delegates to resume discussions on reports of Committees on Environment and Religion, just as reports and recommendations of Committee on Citizenship, Immigration and Related Matters were adopted.
