Report reaching us at Greenbarge Reporters online newspaper has indicated that the convoy of the Governor of Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello was blocked and attacked by people believed to be supporters of a rival opposition political party.
The attack was said to have taken place today , June 3, near the Naval Base, few kilometres from Lokoja, the State capital.
It was gathered that the convoy of Muritala Yakubu Ajaka, a gubernatorial candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in the November election in the State, having sighted the Governor’s convoy, blocked the road.
It was gathered that in the Millie, some supporters of the SDP, who were armed, started shooting sporadically at the convoy of the Governor.
Information has it that an A Tundra, branding the logo of the SDP and SDP flags, also blocked the Governor’s vehicle.
It was learnt that the Governor left the scene unscathed.
The State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Femi Fanwo, who confirmed the incidence, said that there is no cause for panic as the Governor is in high spirit.
He confirmed however, that some security aides and other aides attached to the Governor sustained some injuries and have been rushed to medical facilities for medical attention.
“We urge the people of Kogi State to remain calm as security agents are in full control to ensure the arrest of the hoodlums behind the attack.
“The State Government will ensure that law and order are maintained as the attackers will be brought to justice.”
The Commissioner quoted the Governor as having warned that no APC member should involve in any reprisal attack as insecurity from any quarter will be met with stiff penalties.
