Uprising In Sokoto: My House Was Not Burnt – Bishop Kukah

Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah of the Catholic Diocese of Sokoto has said that his residence in Sokoto was attacked by protesting Muslim youths over the arrest of the killers of Deborah Samuel, a student of Shehu Shagari College of Education.

Riot broke out in Sokoto metropolis today, May 14 over the arrest of the killers of Deborah, alleged to have committed blasphemy against the Prophet of Islam, Prophet Muhammad.

The rioters were said to have specifically targeted the Catholic and ECWA churches and destroyed them.

Reports also had it that St. Bahkita, which serves as the secretariat of the diocese, was set ablaze by the rioters.

Reacting to the reports, Bishop Kukah said that his residence was not torched by the rioters.

“No, they did not burn my residence.”
